You can download a flowchart diagram of this Quick Start Guide, here.

Before you start

In order to complete this process, you will need your VOLO controllers to be wired up, switched on and online. If you need help with this part of the process, please review the installation instructions for the VOLO Master and Expansion controllers, respectively.

Getting Started

Step 1 - Logging In

Navigate to the VOLO Portal and log in using the credentials supplied by KMC.

Step 2 - Creating a Customer

From the Home page, click Manage Customers, then from the Customers page New, enter the details for the new Customer & click Save & Close.

Step 3 - Creating a Site

After creating your Customer, click on the Sites link in the main navigation menu and then click New. Enter a Site code, Site name and geographical time zone then click Save & Close.

Step 4 - Adding a Master Controller

After creating your site, click on the Sites link again.

Click on the Controller icon from within your new site record.

Click New on the Controllers page and complete the necessary details, you will need the following for a Master controller:

  • Type (Master Controller)
  • Name (any name of your choice)
  • Serial Number (found on a label on the controller)
  • Activation Code (also found on a label on the controller)
  • Controller Licence (you must select an available licence from the dropdown list)
  • SIM Licence (optionally select an available licence from the dropdown list)
  • Notes (optional)

Click Save & Close when you are complete.

info

You must have an available Controller Licence for each Master Controller you use in VOLO. This should have been sold to you when purchasing the hardware.

SIM Licences are optional. They are only required if you wish to make use of a VOLO modem as a primary or secondary communication channel

Next, you will be asked to enter a name for each of the two doors that are managed through your new controller. Click Save & Close when you are done.

Step 5 - Adding Expansion Controllers

If you are adding expansion controllers, you simply follow the same process as in Step 4, above. The only differences will be:

  • You must set the Type as Expansion Controller
  • You must select the Master Controller that your Expansion Controller(s) are connected to
  • You do not need to select any licences

Step 6 - Configure your Doors

We have created 2 doors with each Controller that we have added to the system. By default, these doors will be configured as Paxton Proximity Readers.

If you are using a different type of reader, you will need to update each door using the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the Sites page
  2. Click on the Doors icon alongside your new Site Record to navigate to the Doors page
  3. Click on one of the Door icons
  4. Click the Edit button
  5. Select the type of Reader you will be using on this door
  6. Click Save & Close
info

There is a short list of preconfigured Reader Types available in VOLO. If none of these are suitable, you may also create your own Reader Types with custom Wiegand formats. This process is explained in detail on the Custom Reader wiki page.

Step 7 - Create your Timezones

You will need to create weekly repeating Timezones in order to define when the doors within your system can be accessed by users.

  1. Click Timezones in the navigation bar at the top of the page
  2. Click New, in the left panel
  3. Give your new Timezone a Name/Description
  4. Add any number of timeslots to your new Timezone during which you would like the doors to be accessible
  5. Click Save & Close when you are done

Step 8 - Create your Access Levels

  1. Click Access Levels in the navigation bar at the top of the page
  2. Click New, in the left panel
  3. Give your new Access Level a name
  4. Select a Timezone from the dropdown menu alongside each door that should be included in this Access Level
  5. Click Save & Close

Step 9 - Create your Users

  1. Click Users in the navigation bar at the top of the page
  2. Click New in the left panel
  3. Enter the User's details, select an Access Level and input a Token Value
  4. Click Save & Close
info

When you assign an Access Level and a compatible Token to a User, their details will automatically be distributed to any Doors where that User should have access.
